Caelan Doris Included in Ireland Squad But McCarthy Misses Out

Newly reappointed manager the Ireland coach has named captain Doris in his Ireland squad for the autumn matches, however lock McCarthy misses out.

The captain, absent from play since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear if he will be ready to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.

Lock McCarthy, however, was not considered after not recovering from the foot injury suffered during the opening British and Irish Lions Test against Australia in the summer.

After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their 2016 encounter, the team will play Japan, Australia and world champions South Africa in Dublin.

"It's an exciting group to the panel and there's an opportunity for the more experienced players and for those who made their debuts on the recent tour to the Lelos and Portugal," commented Farrell, back to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to coach the Lions tour to Australia.
